International Missions

NOROC's (New Opportunities for Romanian Orphaned Children) mission is to offer new opportunities for spiritual, physical, educational and emotional growth so that at-risk Romanian institutionalized children may escape cycles of poverty, dependency and abuse, and may become independent adults who can nurture meaningful relationships and contribute to their communities. Contact Madge Bayston at mbayston82190@sbcglobal.net for more information.
Did you know that for 178 years, Presbyterian World Mission has been making a difference? At last count we had 50 missionaries in Africa, 30 in Asia and the Pacific, 16 in Europe and 42 in Latin Americas and the Caribbean. Just this Spring, Charles and Melissa Johnson left their cool and comfy home right here in San Antonio to move half way across the world to Chasefu, Zambia to share their knowledge of advanced agricultural techniques with the Chasefu Model Farm in Africa. Your Mission & Outreach Committee voted to support the work of our friends Charles and Melissa. NBPC, we are at work in Zambia! Follow our friends Charles and Melissa on Facebook “Life in Lundazi.”

Local Missions

The Children's Advocacy Center of Comal County is the one place that children who are victims of child abuse and/or sexual abuse can go to share their story one time through forensic interviews that all other parties, including law enforcement, the District Attorney’s office, and CPS, view and hear in real time. CAC offers therapeutic recovery services, medical evaluations, and case management. In 2016, about 350 children were seen by the local CAC and about 71% of them were sexual abuse cases.
Services targeted to its primary audience, children and young people, ages 0 to 21, include a Transitional Living Program, Kids Exchange Program, Substance Abuse Prevention Program, Outpatient Treatment Program, Services to At-Risk Youth (STAR), and a Shelter Services & Assessment Center. The agency appreciates donations throughout the year to help the children and youth in need. Those items include socks, shoes, underwear, coats, sweatshirts with hoodies, and toiletries. Donations can be dropped off at Connections’ offices at 1414 W. San Antonio.
The mission of the Crisis Center of Comal County is to provide crisis and prevention services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The agency provides a safe environment where an individual can make educated non-biased decisions about their future. There are so many ways to help those who have to use the center. Contact them directly if interested in volunteering.

In 2014, New Braunfels Presbyterian Church joined forces with other churches in the New Braunfels area to take part in a Habitat for Humanity-Apostle Build House for a local family.  Contact JP Kesselring at 830/905-6010 for our next volunteer opportunity.
The Spirit of Sharing (S.O.S.) Inc., Food Bank has been in operation since June 1, 1988 and is an ecumenical group of churches and civic groups that have come together to help the needy of New Braunfels. All food distributed is donated and all labor is volunteer. Most of our donations come in as non-perishable food items. However, although we don't solicit money, we also receive monetary donations. NBPC is one of the churches and civic groups represented on the Board of Directors. Contact Jo Anne McBrayer at jmcbrayer1@satx.rr.com for more information.

Opportunities to Serve

The original Adopt-a-Highway program began right here in Texas in 1985. Since then, it’s grown into a nationally and internationally recognized litter-prevention effort, saving taxpayers’ dollars and keeping our rights of way clean.  Adopt-a-Highway currently has more than 4,000 participating groups across the state, and thousands of individuals who dedicate their time to actively make a difference and keep Texas beautiful. In 2014, New Braunfels Presbyterian Church adopted a 2-mile stretch of Loop 337 between New Braunfels High School and Landa Drive.  More than a dozen volunteers from NBPC have picked-up litter along this section twice, collecting more than 45 bags of trash each time. Please contact James Lowe at jamesedwardlowe@gmail.com for more information.
